Finished “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek

I truly loved the book and have taken away a number of ideas I will incorporate into my life. I also have been thinking about how to use it in my classroom. I have been thinking about my syllabus, the first thing a student usually see in a class. We always make sure to cover the course objectives in the syllabus, the what the student will learn. But we never include the why they should learn the materiel. Why is it important for you the student to care about this materiel. As the instructor I already know my why I teach this, I love this subject materiel and get excited at the possibility of sharing this.  Why to do we as instructors never take the time to share this with the student. All my future syllabi will start with this.

Had to share for Starts with WHY

What if the next time someone asks, “Who’s your competition?” we replied, “No idea.” What if the next time someone pushes, “Well, what makes you better than your competition?” we replied, “We’re not better than them in all cases.” And what if the next time someone asks, “Well why should I do business with you then?” we answer with confidence, “Because the work we’re doing now is better than the work we were doing six months ago. And the work we’ll be doing in six months is better than the work we’re doing today. Because we wake up every day with a sense of WHY we come to work.
